| Nexus War is a turn based MMORPG set in an alternate dimension where angels, demons and fantastic humans are fighting over who controls what the next version of the universe looks like. Characters start as mortals, gain experience mostly through harm/heal or repair/destruct, and choose what class (angel/demon/"unaligned" and warrior/caster)at more advanced levels. Skills are added to the character by spending Character Points, which are earned each level and for some achievements. Magic meets modern technology in fantastic settings (planes) of paradise, stygia and several others. The core of the game is factional warfare. Characters band together in factions, gather in their faction's stronghold and war on enemies' strongholds for honor. While the game nominally left beta over a year ago, the introduction of the "Straylight" version seems to have brought "back to beta". Straylight (SL) introduced a new interface and several new dynamics and features, most notably "cults" or dedicating yourself to one of the "Elder Powers" (gods) directly for favor and more powers. These new features introduced bugs and balance issues you'd expect in a beta not in a "live" game. These issues (ease of one side in the cult conflict, for instance) have many wondering if the game is "broken". My experience is that the game is still playable and the imbalance can be overcome with careful tactics. There are many players of this game that have been around for a few years, which serves as a testament to its playability. Personally, I enjoy Nexus War. The number of options available to a character are vast and you have 3 character slots to use. There is a lot of information to learn, but the community is generally helpful. submitted by Schpook on 18 11, 2008 |
