Review(s) of Monkey Football Manager

Monkey Football Manger is a football manager game that runs inside a web browser. As the title suggests, you manage a team of football playing monkeys, and as you might have guessed, this game injects fun and humor into the football manager genre.

Its really easy to sign up, and completely free. I had my team playing their first match in under 5 minutes - the only difficulty was trying to decide on my players names!

At the heart of the game is the strategy and decision making that makes all football management games so addictive. The aim of the game is to increase your teams value which can be achieved by winning leagues, and also by increasing your players value through training.

There are some great twists on the usual football managers themes here. For example, match tactics include giving your players bananas (which give them a performance boost in the next match) or threatening them with a beating (also giving them a performance boost, but their health takes a knock if you lose the match!).

Another great feature is that you get to watch the matches as fully animated videos, so you can see exactly how each player performs. Its pretty funny to watch them boot the ball around and punch each other to get at it!

Even though its a fun game, I found theres plenty of long-term appeal and it takes time to master the tactics and train up your team from a bunch of rookies. The strategy really come into play when picking your playing squad as each monkey has one of four playing styles (speedy, angry, star and cheat). These style heavily influence the outcome of the match, for example a cheat performs well against a star, but very poorly against an angry player. So before each match its a good idea to study the opposition and arrange your squad to take advantage of weaknesses in their players styles.

The weak point of the game is that it doesnt have the depth of features that larger football manager games offer (but its at a beta stage so hopefully therell be more on the way soon), but this does make it easy to learn. Also, if youre expecting a realistic football manager game, this isnt the game for you. But if you want a fun game to play with your mates, Id definitely recommend getting a team, especially if other footie manager games have scared you off with pages of boring player statistics.
