| You wake up in the morning, stretch your bones, walk to the window… you take today’s first cup of fresh air. You wash your face in cold water and you go outside for a walk. Once you return you take advantage of your chair, lay back and rest your legs. A bit bored maybe? You open your PC, you plug-in your RJ-45 connector and so you start browsing the parallel-universe called internet. You seem to be looking for something to keep your mind busy, a game… but soon you’ll go to work. You don’t really have time to play, unless… unless you can access it from work too, or from the park, or from the cafe. The internet shows you tens, hundreds, thousands of games, all with their unique name and fancy banners, but your eyes fall upon one, one of which maybe you have heard, but its name still raises your curiosity. One click… …and you find yourself in the land where wise Lords and Ladies rule their lands with kindness or where tyrants keep their subjects under a firm fist, where the young dare to fight for their valleys, cities or kingdoms, where strong citadels touch the sky with the heights of their walls, where great diplomats form solid alliances and where once powerful lords now hide behind shadows. It has one of the biggest online gaming communities and it counts over 80 servers from where newly registered players can chose. Evony features real time strategy in a medieval world, where one can build villages that could grow up to mighty citadels, and can storm the land with armies counting hundreds of thousands. The game is not only a battle engine, but also provides a castle-sim system. Each future stronghold has 2 main parts: the town and the city. Inside the town players can build administrative buildings, such as academies, embassies, barracks, rally-points and plenty more, while the city has in view the fertile land that surrounds the town, where one could build resource gathering buildings: farms, quarries, iron mines and sawmills. Economy is an important part of this game! The battle system, along with troops also involves heroes, each with certain attributes that can be used either in wars, either in spying or in better administrating your resources, researches or troops. According to the activities they take part in, and of course depending on the outcome, heroes increase their experience and attributes, and increase… or decrease their loyalty towards you. The best part now is that you can customize the heroes that you hire! The game also has various troops, each having its own role in a battle and its own abilities. Some of your soldiers are better in defending, some are better in attacking, some are good for fast raids, other for transports or plundering and others for gathering intelligence. One of the most interesting features of the game is the medal system. Once a player successfully conquers a Valley or defeats a Barbarian Fortress, there is a chance that he would be awarded a medal, due to his efforts and skills. Medals are used in promoting the Lord or the Lady to higher Ranks and Titles, which brings him/her the possibility of building or conquering new cities. Valleys are another unique feature of Evony. Those are NPC held lands, that can be plundered or conquered. Each fortress can administrate a number of valleys (lakes, forests, hills, deserts, grasslands and swamps) depending on the level of its Town Hall, and each valley, according to its type and level (from lvl 1 to 10), adds a bonus to the base production of various resources. Another great and fun part of the game is the so called Aries-Amulet or the Wheel of Fortune as some call it. Each player is granted one free amulet per day, and the amulet activates the Wheel of Fortune that spins as a roulette, granting the player a lucky reward. And maybe the best part of the game is the way in which Evony bounds its community together. It not only has a forum and an in-game mail system, but it also has a LIVE chat module where people from all over the world can talk to each other. The chat filter allows you to chose how and whom to speak with. You can write with and only with alliance members, you can have private messages with whomever you like, you can chat with the beginners or you can chose to write to everyone who is online. Also, Evony has a very attractive user-friendly interface, that helps the player in accessing the various sections of the game without any difficulty. Also there is a tutorial-quest system implemented, that aids the newly registered player in understanding the game and not only answers all the “how-to”s but also grants rewards that greatly help the young Lords and Ladies. Another feature that mustn’t be ignored is the research. One can build academies and each academy can work on one research at a time. Your academicians will bring great improvements not only in your production and administration level, but also to your armies. Be aware that your scientists claim lots of gold in order to bring you progress, and gold comes from trading or from taxes. Don’t neglect your population, it may just get you rich. And talking about being rich and having gold… Defenses! A great citadel must defend its treasures from invaders and barbarians! And what best defense can one have, but fortified units to fill the walls with. You can chose your own defending strategy, by building traps, abatis, archer towers, rolling-logs and defensive trebuchets; and by ordering your troops to either open gates and assist your fortified units in battle, either to hide in barracks and stay safe. But stay sharp! Some of the defensive units, such as rolling-logs are one time use only, so you need to rebuild them after each attack that you have absorbed. Plan you defensive properly! Armies, citadels, strongholds, treasures and riches, Lords and Ladies, friends and foes. You can be a hero in battle, a diplomat in actions, a wise leader to rule upon an alliance or a lone wolf to roam the land of Evony!
