| Before we begin I must first point out that Evony is both a development game and a war game. Therefore it caters far more to the civilisation crowd than the halo players of this world. Dont expect hardcore graphic battle action. That said Evony really is the place to set your inner feudal lord (or lady!) out to play. Having signed into the game for the first time I did have a daunting moment of panic upon being plonked in front of an interface I had never seen before and had no idea how to use. However I paid attention to the header bar which gave the enlightening advice: Beginners are advised to follow the quest or join an alliance for help. So I quickly located the button marked quests and found helpful short term goals which gave me something to focus on to build my city etc. The game is both challenging and progressive whilst being good fun. The 7day beginner’s protection is an excellent idea and allows time for growth and development of a city before battles begin and I would definitely advise new players not to waste it. My experience of the game was recently somewhat soured by a more experienced player who decided to victimise me and attacked 29 times but the beautiful thing about Evony is that alliances allow you to ask for help and to play your way out of trouble. In my case it meant teleporting my city (moving it to anew region, another great idea) and joining a new, more powerful alliance who could protect me from the player who had forgotten to be sporting. That said, my alliance (Venom2) are another of my favourite things about evony: our chats (in the alliance channel of the game chat interface) are fun and I find myself meeting loads of interesting people from all over the place and having endless often completely non game related rambling conversations. So clearly evony is bringing me closer to a bunch of new cyber friends as well. Overall Evony is everything one could want from a progressive, adaptive massively multiplayer medieval rpg. The graphics are excellent, the basic preserve is sound and the players really are great fun. It’s a game that will keep you up at night and distract you from whatever it is you are really supposed to be doing at the time in other words everything an rpg should be.
